Nancy Joan
Emery
March 10, 1931 – May 2, 2026
Nancy Emery, 95. Our beloved Mother, Spouse, Daughter, and Mother-in-law passed away on May 2, 2026. Nancy was the daughter of the late Charles Roy McCormick and the late Marion Springer McCormick. Nancy was born in Cincinnatti, Ohio and raised in Chattanooga, TN, along with 5 other siblings: Sisters Kathleen, Charlotte and Dottie and brothers Charles Jr and Donald.
Nancy was a devoted wife to our father, William Emery, and a loving mother of five children. She and our father eloped in Ringgold, Georgia, on December 28, 1950, beginning a marriage that spanned 72 years, until his passing on October 29, 2022.
As an Army wife, Nancy navigated the challenges of frequent moves and long separations, including her husband's two tours of duty in Vietnam. With strength and resilience, she managed the home front and raised their family with care and determination. In 1976, they made their final home in Harker Heights.
Nancy was an advocate for women's rights and equal opportunities. She and Dad instilled in their children the values of independence, compassion, and strength - qualities that continue to guide them today.
She loved her many grandchildren and was devoted to her Methodist Church in Harker Heights. Nancy also gave generously to charitable causes, making an impact in the lives of others for many years.
An avid gardener, Nancy found joy and peace tending to what she lovingly called her "peace garden". She spent countless hours nurturing her plants and flowers creating a beautiful space.
Memorable moments and achievements: In 1998, she and dad made an exciting trip to Turkey for a three-week visit with their son, Michael and daughter-in-law Birgul, in Izmir, Turkey. They made many trips around the country visiting historic ancient sites mentioned in the Bible, as well as, going on a trip to the Greek island of Chios. Our adventuring mother followed this up in the summer of 1999, with a very memorable trip to see Michael and Birgul, stationed in Naples, Italy.
Mom loved the churches and beautiful countryside of Tuscany and Florence, the many historical attractions in Rome and the Sorrentine coast around Naples. She always had a fond spot in her heart for Italy after that trip. In March 2010, mom was excited to be a grandma again when twins, Olivia and Conor were born. She went to Manassas, Virginia for a month to help her daughter-in-law, Birgul, take care of her newborn twins. Mom was 79 years old at the time. All her motherly instincts were on grand display. She loved handling babies again.
Nancy is survived by her children, Michael Emery (Birgul), Brenda Lee, Tracey Marcello, Marion Martorelli (Ralph) and many grandchildren.
