Nita Palmer was born in Okalla, TX (Bell County) on September 6th, 1936, to parents, Lenuel Martin Priest and Bernice Arleen Henderson.
Nita, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on August 26, 2023, in her home in Florence, TX. Nita was proceeded in death by husband, Paul Lanning and husband, Billy Palmer; sisters, Virgina Collins, Glenna Smith; and brother, Mark Priest.
Surviving members are her daughters, Dusty Sadler, Scottie Simpson and husband, Robert Simpson, and Toby Carmon and husband, Ricky Carmon. She has 7 grandchildren, Drew Sadler and wife, Jacquelyn Sadler, Fallan Brandt and husband, Gary Brandt, Bo Orman and husband, Dustin Orman, Ty Sadler and wife, Sierra Sadler, Tatum Barnes and husband, Colby Barnes, McKenzie Simpson and boyfriend, Forrest Gibson, Paige Carmon and boyfriend, Zane Lane. Nita has 8 great-grandchildren, Tori, Cash, Waylon, Macyl, Wacey, Wyatt, Kline and Whitten.
Nita worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for 27 years. She worked at Sweetbriar Nursing Home as head nurse on her wing. Later she worked as a home health nurse. She loved being a nurse. She was awarded through the years for being such a dedicated, hardworking, compassionate nurse. All the patients loved Nita. After she retired, she put all her hard work into her yard. She was told numerous times that she had the prettiest yard in town. When she wasn’t gardening, she was hunting arrowheads with her friends. Nita was also an antique collector, and loved garage sales. When Nita was younger, she was quite the cowgirl, and loved rounding up cattle in the pasture. Nita was also known for her great Halloween decorations on Halloween. She always dressed up as Zelda the Fortune Teller. All the little kids always wanted to go to her house. She was quite the character. She also was a great historian. People were drawn to her to here about all the history she knew. Nita will never be forgotten, because she made history while she was here.
