Services for retired Master Sgt. Perkins McKenzie Jr., 67, of Killeen, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at HarperTalasek Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen with Rev. H.E. DeBose Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Killeen Memorial Park with full military honors.
Mr. McKenzie died May 6, 2011, at a Temple hospital.
Mr. McKenzie was born Jan. 21, 1944, in Monroe, N.C., and was educated in High Point, N.C. Also, he married Jessie Washington in High Point in 1964. He joined the U.S. Army in 1964 and served for 21 years until his retirement in 1985 at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., as a master sergeant. His military awards include: Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medalsixth award, National Defense Service Medal Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Vietnam Service Medal Meritorious Unit Citation Overseas Service Ribbon with No. 3 Army Service Ribbon Expert Badge, M16 Rifle Badge.
He then worked at Army and Air Force Exchange Service as a tech representative for Hewett Packard. Mr. McKenzie was also a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Mr. McKenzie is preceded in death by his parents and one son.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie, of Killeen daughters, Helena Johnson and Audrey McKenzie, both of Killeen eight grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at HarperTalasek Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
