Peter Christensen

Funeral services for Chief Warrant Officer 2 Peter Leslie Christensen, 67, of Harker Heights, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Harper-Talasek Chapel in Killeen.

Burial with full military honors will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Mr. Christensen died Oct. 27, 2017, in his home. He was born Jan. 21, 1950, in Portland, Maine.

Mr. Christensen graduated from Killeen High School in 1969.

He served in the Army for nine years until he left in 1979 as chief warrant officer two at Fort Hood. During that time he flew AH1 attack helicopters while serving in Vietnam and Germany. His military awards include an Air Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, an Army Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Mr. Christensen then moved to Killeen and worked as a pilot for an offshore oil contractor and other overseas contractors in countries including Saudi Arabia and Papua New Guinea. He then started to fly medical evacuation for companies including Care Flight, PHI, Stat Air and Care Link.

Mr. Christensen was a member of the DAV Chapter 29, American Legion post 573, VFW Post 3892, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 100, and the NRA.

He will always be remembered as a caring and generous man who truly loved his family, his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and was very generous to all that came in contact with him.

Mr. Christensen was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Christensen, and his parents, Harold and Caroline.

Survivors include his sons J.P. Christensen of Leander, Christopher Tate of Dallas, and Jeremy Tate of Shreveport, La.; daughter Kimberley Christensen of Shreveport, La.; brothers Paul Christensen of Commerce, Ga., Neal Christensen of Lincoln, Calif., and Kyle Christensen of Corpus Christi; sisters, Janet Mulcahy of Harker Heights and Ellen Reich of Salado; and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to S.W. Lambard D.A.V. Chapter 29 at 607 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd., Harker Heights, TX 76548.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Harper-Talasek Chapel in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
