Services for retired Staff Sgt. Ralph Bowling, 83, of Killeen, will be at noon Friday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sung H. Kim officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.BRBRHe died Oct. 9, 2007, in a Killeen hospital.BRBRRalph was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Weeksbury, Ky. He joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II in North Africa, where he was a prisoner of war for 39 months. He joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. Ralph retired in 1968 at Eglin Air Force Base.BRBRHe moved to Cleveland, Tenn., in 1977. Ralph received a degree from Cleveland State Community College in criminal justice. He then moved to Brooksville, Fla., and worked for the Department of Corrections in Florida. In 1982, he moved to Texas and worked for the Department of Corrections at Galveston, University of Texas hospital. Ralph then retired in 1984 and moved to Killeen.BRBRHe was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Nora Bowling; brother, Grover Bowling; and sisters, Lucille Mullens, Juanita Green and Ethel Moss.BRBRSurvivors include his wife, Kim Bowling of Killeen; sons, Richard Bowling of Kent, Ohio, Darryl and Ralph D. Bowling, both of Atlanta, Ga., David Lee Bowling of New Port Ritchie, Fla., and Thomas Bowling of Cleveland, Tenn.; daughters, Karren Long of Kent, Ohio, Kathy True of Cleveland, Tenn., Karol Dobson of Atlanta, Ga., and Marta Siegelin of Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers, Ray Bowling of West Virginia, Glenn Bowling of Louisiana and Pearly Bowling; sisters, Joan Vilagie and Bonnie Cook, both of Florida, 18 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.BRBRThe family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen.
