Funeral services for Rayard Assed, 51, of Joshua, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen. Interment will follow in the Killeen City Cemetery.BRBRHe died Sept. 24, 2007, at his residence.BRBRRayard was born June 13, 1956, in Seminole, Okla. Ray moved to Killeen as an infant and was raised and educated here. He was a graduate of Killeen High School.BRBRHe worked in the construction and maintenance fields, most recently as a maintenance supervisor for Wal-Mart. There are many who knew Ray and loved him for the kind and generous man he was.BRBRHe was deeply devoted to his family and friends, and he gave far more than he ever took. He was loved by many and earned their devotion and respect in the way he perceived and struggled through the tough times to carve out a new life for himself, a good and honest life that was defined by his work and by his renewed relationships with his family.BRBRRay was a hard-working and driven man. He was a proud man, firm in his convictions, an intellectual and deep-thinking man. He continually sought a greater understanding of the world, and his place in it.BRBRRay was fiercely proud of his Arab heritage and longed to return again to the beautiful homeland of Syria, the birthplace of his mother and father. The family is deeply saddened and hurt by the loss of this beautiful man, but there is some comfort to be found in the belief that this restless soul, has in the end, found his peace.BRBRHe was preceded in death by his parents, Mouhamed and Bereeza Assed.BRBRSurvivors include his brothers, Jihad Assed and his wife Olga of Houston and Nasser Assed of Austin; sisters, Najat McMahan of Copperas Cove, Janet O'Conner and her husband, Russell of Galveston, Linda Assed and her husband, Michael of Killeen and Judy Assed of Belton; nephews, Christian Jamal McMahan, Billy August, Justin Assed, Joshua Randell; nieces, Ginger Manett, Misty McMahan, Amand Assed, Courtney Assed, Alexis Assed, great-nephews, Jesse McMahan and Joseph Assed; and great-nieces, Anjelica August and Abbigail McMahan.BRBRThe family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen.BRBRMemorials may be made to the American Cancer Society BR BR
