Graveside services with full military honors for retired 1st Sgt. Raymond Lowell Gribble, 65, of Killeen, will be 10 a.m. today at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Myatt officiating.BRBRGribble died Oct. 2, 2008, at his residence. He was born Jan. 10, 1943, in Covington, Ky., where he was educated.BRBRHe served in the U.S. Air Force prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served for 23 years until his retirement as a first sergeant in 1984.BRBRHis military awards include the Silver Star; Bronze Star; Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters; Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal with Silver Clasp; Air Force Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon with number two; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Presidential Unit Citation; Valorous Unit Award; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry; Combat Infantry Badge; and Parachutist Badge, an Expert Badge Pistol and Riffle; Recruiter Badge, and Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.BRBRGribble worked as a postal carrier for 18 years for the city of Temple.BRBRHe graduated from Central Texas College with a degree in criminal justice and served as a corporal in the Harker Heights Police Department.BRBRHe was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 123 in Kentucky for almost 20 years, the T.R.E.A., Purple Heart Association, 11th ACR Association, DAV Chapter 29, Retired Federal Employee Association, and the Harker Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars post 3892.BRBRGribble was the owner and crew chief of IMCA modified race car No. 27, which raced at the Texas Thunder Speedway.BRBRSurvivors include his wife, Eula E. Gribble of Killeen; his sons, Danny Gribble of Granger and John Allen of Midland; his daughters, Paula Shannon of LaGrange, Ky., Dallas Nation of Grayson, La., and Sarah Allen of Killeen; his brothers, Robert and Rodney Gribble, both of Dry Ridge, Ky.; Richard Gribble of Florida; Russell Gribble of Owensboro, Ky.; sister, Melody Gribble of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.BRBRVisitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen.
