Funeral services for retired Command Sgt. Maj. Richard J. Adams, 77, of Killeen, will be at 7:30 a.m. Friday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, with Chaplain Claude Hoffman officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.BRBRAdams died Dec. 2, 2008, in a Temple hospital. He was born Oct. 17, 1931, in Gideon, Mo.BRBRHe was also raised in Gideon, Mo. He joined the U.S. Army in 1952, and he served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Good Conduct Medal ninth award, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Army Occupation Medal Germany.BRBRAdams retired at Fort Hood in 1978. He then went to work for Beneficial Finance Company as a loan officer and assistant manager. He retired from there after 14 years. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 223.BRBRAdams was preceded in death by his parents, Elvis and Kathryn Adams.BRBRHe is survived by his wife, Norma Adams of Killeen; his sons, Richard J. Adams Jr. and his wife, Ann Marie, of Farmington Hills, Mich., Rodney J. Adams and his wife, Theresa, of Killeen; his daughter, Melody Ann Wilson and her husband, Col. Martin Wilson, of Harker Heights; his sister, Carol Murphy and her husband, Ray, of Clarkton, Mo.; his grandchildren, Richard J. Adams III, Zachary L. Adams, Kevin M. Carroll, Christina E. Carroll, Anthony Fetters, Shelby Fetters; and his great-grandchildren, Madelyn Carroll and Taylor Carroll.
