Funeral services for retired Staff Sgt. Richard A. Daniels Sr., 74, of Killeen, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 2901 Illinois Ave., Killeen. Burial with full military honors will be at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Brother Richard Allen Daniels Sr., was born and assigned to the parental stewardship of Eddie Daniels and Vayle Owens on April 23, 1940 in Dothan, Alabama. He was the first born of five siblings. The unique fragrance of his personality, passion and potential was evident from his youth. He attended Lincoln Park Academy High School, where he excelled in a variety of sports namely football.
He sealed the fruit of his eternal destiny in the tender years of his youth when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. The authenticating act affirming his appreciation for his salvation was manifested in when he chose to follow Him in baptism at Bethel Baptist Church in Ft. Pearce, Florida during the pastoral tenure of the Reverend C. Byrd.
As a young man on a mission to develop the fruit of a responsible life, he chose to invest twenty years of respectable service honoring his country as a soldier in the United States Army.
The fruit of his invested potential resulted in his progressive promotions from a newly Enlisted Private to Senior Enlisted Staff Sergeant between the years of 19571977. His tours of duty as a soldier we vast, encompassing his sacrificial service rendered in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
His passion and potential would prove to exceed the parameters of his military career as he remained faithful in his service to his country for the next 35 years as a Civilian Logistician on the military installation of Fort Hood, Texas. During that same time he made a conscious decision to submit himself to the discipline of preparation through higher education at Central Texas College. The fruit of his endeavors earned him an Associates Degree for General Studies in 1988. Among many organizations of which he was fond, he was a Life Member of the VFQ Post 9191 and, is esteemed as past Post Commander and AllAmerican Post Commander.
The Lordship of Jesus Christ was the focal foundation upon which he worshipped, praised and participated in the ministry as a member of the Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church. His genuine spirit of affirming the goodness of the Lord accompanied by his generous encouragement to the Saints in the fellowship has made an indelible impact upon the Body that will ever exceed his earthly tenure.
On Friday, August 8, 2014 Brother Richard Daniels Sr. answered to the loving call of his Lord to exit this earthly realm to enter into His eternal Presence. Among those who preceded his earthly deliverance are his parents Eddie and Vayle, brother Jimmy Earl Hutto and granddaughter Tamara Mackie.
Among those who remain to cherish his memory, anticipating an inevitable reunion at the return of our Lord include: a loving wife, Hazel M. Daniels of Killeen, Texas Three sisters: Betty Joe Herbert Spotford of Rochester, NY Gwendolyn George Hicks of Memphis, TN and Patricia Hutto of Rochester, NY. Four children: Cynthia Fred Brown of Round Rock, TX, Sharon Kyle McNealy of The Colony, TX, Beverly Daniel Mackie of Baton Rouge, LA, Richard Allen Daniels Jr. Ebony of Harker Heights, TX. Eight grandchildren: Rickita Fisher, Camara Mackie, Kevin McNealy, Kameron McNealy, Jailyn Brown, Cederick Brown, Alahna Daniels and Richard Daniels III, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
To God be the Glory for such a beautiful life that brother Daniels has lived on earth and for an even greater Life that he now embraces for an eternity
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church. HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen is in charge of arrangements.
