Funeral services with full military honors for retired Sgt. 1st Class Richard L. Whitehead Sr., 64, of Killeen, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with a U.S. Army chaplain officiating. BRBRMr. Whitehead died July 12, 2009, in a Temple hospital. Mr. Whitehead was born Sept. 29, 1944, in Warren, Ohio. BRBRMr. Whitehead was born and educated in Warren, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years until his retirement at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, in 1982. His military awards include the Bronze Star Medal with V device and a Purple Heart with OLC. He then moved to Killeen in 1993 and worked for a government contractor at Fort Hood. He was an avid fisherman. BRBRSurvivors include former wife, Kat Pinckney, of Harker Heights; three sons, Richard L. Whitehead II of Harker Heights, John H. Whitehead of San Diego, Calif., Kirk A. Whitehead of Amarillo; a daughter, Careta Miller of Granger; 11 grandchildren; nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania. BRBRMemorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
