Funeral services for Robert Gordon Gittens, 63, of Killeen will be Tuesday December 20th at the J. Foster Phillips Funeral Home located at 179-24 Linden Boulevard Jamaica NY 11434. Burial will follow in Calverton National Cemetery located at 210 Princeton Blvd., Calverton NY.
Mr. Gittens was born on August 30, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Cuthbert "Cuffie" and Effie Gittens.
He enlisted into the US Army Medical Field on December 27th, 1974 at Fort Hamilton, NY. He left the military voluntarily as a Staff Sergeant on September 18, 1984 while stationed here at Fort Hood.
After serving the military honorably, he began his career with the United States Postal Service. He worked at various offices throughout the Killeen and Fort Hood area , and would eventually retire from the 10th Street office location on December 31, 2011.
Preceding his deliverance from this life are his parents, Cuthbert "Cuffie" and Effie Gittens.
Among those who remain to await the certainty of an eternal celebration at the reunion in the presence of our Lord are: his sons, James Gittens and Damon Gittens SR.; his grandchildren, Carol Scott; Erica Gittens; Sanaa Gittens; Ihsan Gittens; Damon Gittens JR.; Farah Gittens and Imani Gittens.
Visitation will be Thursday December 15th 6 - 8 PM at Harper-Talasek Funeral, Killeen.
