Robert Hoban

August 16, 1926 — April 18, 2010

Services for retired Tech. Sgt. Robert L. Hoban, 83, of Killeen, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church Trimmier with the Rev. Weldon Hicks and the Rev. Mark Sibley officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at 2 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Robert Lewis Hoban was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., to Lewis Ambrose and Marie Estelle Bezaire Hoban. He was raised in the Central Michigan region.

He joined the U.S. Navy on Nov. 16, 1943, and was discharged April 22, 1946. He then went on to join the Army Air Corps on Feb. 13, 1948, and was reassigned to the U.S. Air Force on Dec. 20, 1949. He retired from the Air Force on Sept. 30, 1965.

His decorations included the American Area Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon 1 star, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon 1 star, the WWII Victory Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, with 2 loops, National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lewis A. and Marie Estelle Hoban two brothers, Herald and Neil Hoban one daughter, Helen Marie Hoban three sons, Neil Edward Hoban, Dale Anthony Hoban and Timothy Allen Hoban.

Survivors include two sisters, Lorraine Johnson and Margaret Stilson his loving wife, Mildred Eulene Hoban two sons, Steve Hoban and Mark Hoban, 11 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
