On Thursday, July 16, 2015, an amazing mother, grandmother, and friend went to be with Jesus at the age of 93. She will be missed every day by her family and friends, but they are at peace with her passing, knowing that she was welcomed into His presence. They take comfort in knowing that she is being reunited with her dear late husband, Dan, parents, grandparents, and siblings.
Ruth was born in Clifton, Texas. After completing her education, she went to work for the Civil Service System where she was assigned to Nagoya, Japan. She met Dan there while vacationing with friends. They were married in, October, 1951 in Washington, D.C. after returning to the States.
Ruth and Dan moved their young family to Killeen, Texas in 1959. Ruth was active in the schools and community organizations, and in the First Presbyterian Church of Killeen. She managed rental properties and earned her broker's license, but her family was always her first priority. Ruth loved to travel and some of her favorite trips were to Australia and New Zealand, Norway, Germany, The Panama Canal, Canada, and to many U.S. cities and states.
Survivors who will cherish her memory are her children, Marilyn and her husband Robbie Griffin of Salado, Texas; James and his wife Janet Manfull of Irving, Texas along with their son, Bryan and his wife Natalie Manfull of Houston, Texas, and daughter, Alyssa and her husband Matt Adamson of Arlington, Texas; Kaye and her husband Ernie Patterson of Arlington, Texas, along with their son, Richard of Houston, Texas, and Kaycee of Lubbock, Texas; and many other family members.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation to be held on, Friday, July 24, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas, with burial at the Killeen City Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Salado.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Presbyterian Church of Salado, www.presbsalado.org, 254-947-8106 or to The American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
