Sammy Ray Sam Breeden, 79, of Hamilton, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014.
Services for Sam will be held Friday, May 9, at 3 p.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery south of Killeen.
Sam was born June 24, 1934 in Killeen. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 in 1951 and proudly served for over 20 years, retiring in April 1974. His devoted service included over 18 years at sea on 10 different ships with only two shore assignments during his career. He saw duty off the coasts of Korea and Vietnam and sailed the worlds oceans throughout the Cold War as an engineer, doing the thankless, unsung work of making the ship go. After leaving the Navy, Sam worked as an airconditioning technician at Fort Hood for 7 years until taking a position with the Postal Service in Hamilton, TX, where he worked until retiring in 1991. Always a dedicated, hard worker, his integrity and loyalty were admired by all who had the pleasure to meet him.
Those left to cherish Sams memory are his loving wife of almost 53 years, Patricia Patti Breeden his elder brother, James Pete Breeden of Eugene, Oregon two sons, Mike wife Micki of Macon, Georgia, and Mark wife Samantha of Virginia Beach, Virginia and 3 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Killeen at HarperTalasek.
