Selma Barr

November 25, 1915 — March 28, 2014

Funeral services for Selma Rosa Waskow Barr, 98, of Killeen will be at 10:00 am Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Killeen with Pastors Cynthia Moss and David McMinn officiating. Pallbears will be the Junior ROTC Cadets of The Henry T. Waskow Academy, Belton. Selma passed away at Park Place Manor in Belton, Texas on March 28, 2014.

She was born November 25, 1915 in Weesatche, Goliad county, Texas to Frank and Mary Goth Waskow. The family moved to Bell County when she was five years old. Selma went to rural Bell County schools until her high school years, where she graduated from Belton High School. She married Estle Barr on August 21, 1937. They lived in Killeen most of their married life. Selma retired as Food Service Manager at Clifton Park Elementary school. In retirement, Selmas zest for life inspired Lou Ann Cross to name her Resident Ambassador for HouseCross Rosewood Living Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Estle and her parents, Frank and Mary Waskow. She was also preceded in death by her seven siblings: Bertha Tippit, Mary Lee BarrCox, Paul, August, George,
John Waskow and her little brother, Captain Henry T. Waskow.

She is survived by her children Linda and Rob Lichtenberger of Harker Heights, Nell Schick of Richardson and Thomas Barr of Cooper. Her grandchildren Douglas Stubblefield, Kerry Rodriguez and husband Lee, Tracy Beck and husband Garrick, Tammy Whitten and husband Douglas and Jamie Barr. She has five greatgrandchildren Lauren Rose, Lillie, Elijah, Griffin, and Rebecca.

Selma belonged to the Killeen Retired Teachers association, the Henry T. Waskow V.F.W post in Belton, the American Legion post in Killeen and Eastside Baptist church in Killeen.

Visitation is Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen. Burial will be at Killeen City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Childrens Ministries Fund.
