Memorial Services for Sylvia Jean Schuurman will be conducted at 9 AM Thursday, February 25, 2021, at Maranatha Baptist Church, 4509 Trimmier Rd. in Killeen, Texas. Burial will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Jean, as she preferred to be called, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 3, 1947, to Jesse and Hazel Dailey. She spent her childhood days growing up in Ohio. She moved to Killeen, Texas with her mother and siblings in August 1964, where she enrolled in Killeen High School for her senior year of school..
While in Killeen she met a young soldier named Tunis Schuurman, who was stationed at Fort Hood. She fell in love with him and they were married on March 19, 1966, in Killeen, and enjoyed being together for almost 55 years. They spent most of those years serving together in ministry in several different states. During this time, they were blessed with 5 wonderful children - 1 daughter and 4 sons.
Jean is survived by her husband, Tunis, who she referred to as "The Love of my life", 4 sons, Bill Schuurman of Nolanville, Texas; Tom (and Jana) Schuurman of Bryan, Ohio; Tim (and Lonna) Schuurman of Anna, Texas; Jonathan (and Julie) Schuurman of Wichita, Kansas; and 1 daughter, Kath Schuurman, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
She is also survived by her siblings, 2 brothers, Mike (and Ginger) Dailey of Belton, Texas; Bob (and Beth) Dailey of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and 2 sisters, Dona (and Bob) Young of Rochester, Minnesota; and Becky (and Randy) Ray of Belton, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Anyone who knew Jean, knew of her faith and love for the Lord Jesus Christ, her passion for prayer, and her compassion for people. She was open about her faith and desire for others to come to know her Lord and Saviour. She was a member of Grace Bible Church in Killeen, Texas where she was actively involved. She loved her family and friends unconditionally.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021, at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas, 76543.
