We gather today with hearts filled with both sadness and joy to celebrate the life of Timothy J. Odie, a man whose time with us, though seemingly too short, was part of God's perfect plan. With gratitude and praise, we thank the Lord for the precious gift of his life and for allowing us to share in his journey for 68 wonderful years. As we know, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8), and there is no greater gift of grace, mercy, and love than this.
Timothy J. Odie began his life's journey on February 8, 1956, in Durant, Mississippi, born to Mae Frances Jordan and the late Timothy Odie Sr. He was lovingly raised by his stepfather, the late Enos Jordan. On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, Timothy was called home to be with the Lord, departing this life in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his beloved wife and children. He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy Odie Sr.; stepfather, Enos Jordan; two brothers, Willie (Freddie) and Earnest (Dee) Williams; and one sister, Diann Williams Lee.
Known affectionately as "Bay Bruh" by his family, Timothy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Fellowship M.B. Church in Durant, MS. He received his early education at Durant Attendance Center and Durant High School, excelling in football, baseball, and track and field. In 1974, during the Vietnam War, Timothy voluntarily joined the United States Army, proudly serving his country for 21 years. Throughout his military career, he earned numerous awards and accolades while being stationed and serving tours of duty around the world. In pursuit of providing for his family, Timothy earned an Associate of Liberal Arts degree from Chicago City-Wide College and, after retiring from the U.S. Army, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Central Texas. He worked for MHMR of Temple before retiring a second time.
On October 27, 1974, Timothy married the love of his life, Eliza Landfair. Their 50-year union was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Lolita and Tamara, and a son, Timothy III. He also welcomed an additional son, George, into the family when his daughter married. Timothy never used the term "in-law" and treated George as his own. Beyond his own children, Timothy was a bonus dad to many of his children's friends and was affectionately called "Unc" by his many nieces and nephews and regarded as a friend and brother by many in his community.
Timothy was a people person who loved to be out and about, never meeting a stranger. His love and generosity knew no bounds, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand without expecting anything in return. Known as "THE Neighborhood Watch" by his neighbors, Timothy was always ready with a smile, a wave, and a conversation. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, caring for his yard, and taking road trips, but most importantly, he loved God and his family. He cherished the times when his family gathered together, laughing and reminiscing. His huge heart, beautiful smile, generous spirit, bright mind, big personality, and amazing laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Timothy leaves behind his beloved wife, Eliza Odie of Killeen, TX; his daughters, Lolita Odie of Converse, TX, and Tamara Odie-Rosado (George) of Little Elm, TX; his son, Timothy Odie III of Live Oak, TX; two sisters, Bettie A. Mallett of Sallis, MS, and Gloria (Willie) Kimes of Monroe, LA; his mother, Mae Frances Jordan of Durant, MS; his brother, Sam Williams of Durant, MS; several brothers and sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory and legacy.
