Memorial services for Tymen Jager, 81, of Killeen will be at a later date in Oregon.
Tymen Jager was born January 30, 1934 in Ouder-Amstel, Netherlands. He was the third of nine children between Gerrit and Woutje (Loedeman) Jager.
One memory of his childhood he spoke of often happened during World War II. There were times when there would be ten strangers at the dinner table. The strangers were Jewish refugees who his father was helping to escape German prison camps.
He first came to Terrebonne, Oregon in 1954 to work for the Marinus Newhouse family. He returned to Holland in 1956 and married Hendrina Streefkerk on November 8, 1956. They returned to America in 1957 to fulfill his dream of owning his own farm. First they lived in Compton, California before settling in the Central Oregon area.
After working several years in Central Oregon mills, he was able to fulfill his dream of owning his own farm. After retiring from farming and mill work, he lived several years with his son in Terrebonne before moving to Killeen, Texas to live with his daughter where he spent his final years enjoying Central Texas Sunshine.
He is survived by his son, Gerrit Albert Jager and his wife, Paty; daughter, Maria Huggins and her husband Mike: his ex-wife, Henny Jager; and two sisters Henny VanLeuwen and Tiny Tooren and one brother, Gerrit Jager. He has left a legacy behind of five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
