Vernice Lee

Funeral services for Vernice Acie Lee, 80, of Dallas will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday
at Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Shaun L. Moton officiating. Interment will follow in Killeen City Cemetery.

Vernice A. Barker Lee was born to the parental stewardship of Monk and Lurline Barker on March 28, 1933, in Rockwall, Texas. She was born the fourth child among eleven other siblings, and was therefore was graced to give, as well as to receive an abundance of love and affection.
She was reared in the fear and admonition of the Lord and secured her eternal destiny in the tender years of her youth when she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior.
She received her formal education in the public schools of Rockwall, Texas. Her passionate interest and personal initiative invested in the art of cosmetology resulted in the fruit of her becoming a licensed beautician. The fruit of her submission to the discipline of preparation as a licensed beautician afforded her the means to organize, establish and operate her own beauty shop for no less than twentyfive years in Marlboro Heights.
Found to be a woman of significant virtue and affirmed to be the help meet to A.B. Lee Sr. the two were united in holy matrimony in 1950.
The Lee family resolved to establish residence in Killeen, Texas in 1954. Here, Sister Lee was led to unite with Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church. Her service in devotion to her Lord found her exercising her gifts to teach Sunday school, singing in the choir, encouraging her sisters in Womens Mission and, strengthening the Saints in weekly fellowship and in her worship of God.
She was a woman blessed with plenty of opportunities to travel and experience life in other countries, cities and states. Among one of her most memorable travel experiences to other countries took place in Heidelberg, Germany. It was here that she united with the Patton Barracks Baptist Church, where she become respectively and affectionately honored as the mother of the church. Additionally, she travelled the world as a military dependent of one of her daughters during the years of 19872003.
As a woman of unique and distinct Christian character accompanied by commendable conduct she believed in making the most of her life in reverence to God, with respect to others and ultimately in ways that enabled her to rejoice in the fruit of her labor. She found fulfillment over the progressive course of her constant pursuit of honorable and respectable employment whether she was serving at the Dining Facility on Ft Hood A Member of the Janitorial Services for KISD An Aide at a Nursing Home in Temple, Texas A Cashier at Little Caesars Pizza and or as a Daycare Provider.

Among her personal preferences for engaging interests and enjoying activities included but were not limited to crocheting, sewing, watching football, playing Scrabble and or bingo with her family. Her constant joy was her family and she took great delight in serving the Lord until her health declined.
Among those who preceded her deliverance from the shores of this earthly life are: her parents: Monk and Lurline Barker one daughter, Pam S. Nicholson and 9 siblings: William Travis Barker, Clarence Earl Barker, Bobby Barker, Howard Hicks, Michael Mathis, Brenda Wright, Sandra Meeks, Patricia Hicks and Yvonne Manley.
Among those who remain, anticipating the glorious reunion at the imminent return of our Lord are: her children: A.B. Lee Jr. Killeen, Texas Anita Lee, Dallas, Texas Gregory Lee Yulonda, Houston, Texas Phyllis Lee Milner Keith, San Antonio, Texas and Cherry Lee Leonard Ken Killeen, Texas. Her siblings Marsha White and Walter Mathis both of Dallas, Texas Sixteen grandchildren: Twentyone great grandchildren and, a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation is on Friday from 68 p.m. at HarperTalasek Funeral home in Killeen.
