W.J. Cleave was born and educated in Crystal Springs Mississippi.
He lived in New Orleans, Louisiana until 1960 when he joined the U.S. Army and served for twentyfour years until his retirement at the rank of 1SG at Fort Stewart, Georgia in 1985.
His military awards include: Army Service Ribbon Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral 3 National Defense Service Medal Good Conduct Medal 8th Award Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60 Army Commendation Medal NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3 Overseas Service Bar 1 Army Achievement Medal Mechanics Badge Sharpshooter Badge Pistol, .45 Caliber.
He moved back to Killeen in 1985.
Mr. Cleave is survived by his daughter, Regina Cleave of Austin, Texas his stepdaughter, Norma Wilson of Terry, Mississippi and his brother, Willie Fred Lyons of Lakeland, Florida. He is preceded by his wife, Jearalene Wheeler Cleave his father, Otis Cleave and his mother, Annie Catchings Cleave.
