William Henry Broadway

Retired Sergeant First Class William Henry Broadway, 82, passed away on March 10, 2024, peacefully at his home in Killeen, Texas.

William Henry Broadway was born to Woodrow and Sallie Broadway in Salisbury, North Carolina, on December 7, 1941. His beloved aunt, Janie Scott, assisted in William’s upbringing. William graduated from Dunbar High School in East Spencer, North Carolina in 1961.

William enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 where he worked as a helicopter mechanic. He had numerous tours of duty to include Vietnam, Germany, Korea, and Fort Hood. William met Edith Broadway, who he later married, during his time in the military. William served his country for 27 years and he retired from the US Army in 1988. After retiring from the US Army, William became a government contractor. He retired from this position in 2012.

William was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved to travel; and he valued his family dearly. He loved his model cars and helicopters. William was a faithful fan of the Cleveland Browns and the North Carolina Panthers.

Retired Sergeant First Class William Henry Broadway is preceded in death by his parents; Woodrow and Sallie Broadway; his brother, Ernest Broadway (Mary); and his aunt Janie Scott.

He is survived by his wife Edith Broadway; his loving daughters, Linda Broadway Powers (Reginald), and Nicole Broadway Wallace; a stepdaughter, Shirley Raines (Carlos); a grandson, Darrius Frederick Broadway, a granddaughter, Danielle Nicole Wallace; a great-granddaughter, Zoe Giselle Broadway; and two step-grandchildren; Chloe and Alex Raines.

He is also survived by a brother, Stephen Broadway (Betty); and two sisters; Willis Charleston (Willie Dan) and Elzona Charleston (Josiah). A host of other family members and friends are also left to cherish his memory.

Services will be held for Retired Sergeant First Class William Henry Broadway on March 21, 2024, at 8:00am at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, located at 506 N 38th St. in Killeen, Texas. William will be laid to rest at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
