Funeral services for William Earl Haines, 98, of Salado will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at HarperTalasek Chapel in Killeen with James Hudgins officiating. Private family burial services will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Youngsport.
Mr. Haines died Jan. 29, 2011, at his residence. He was born Oct. 4, 1912, to Earle Joseph and Martha Ellen Haines in Grit. He married Vurlie Allene Hurd in 1940.
He was a cowboy before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in World War II. In 1945, he moved to Killeen to help build Fort Hood. He ran Haines Shoe Repair Shop until his retirement in 1964.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Vurlie Allene Haines of Salado two daughters, Sandra A. Dunn of Salado, and Janelle Mudge of San Antonio one grandchild five greatgrandchildren and two greatgreatgrandchildren.
