William Hoffman

William E. Bill Hoffman, Sr., 94, of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Killeen, TX,1956 went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, 5 June, 2012. Bill was born in Jennerstown, PA on September 24, 1917. He was predeceased by his parents John Parker Hoffman, Sr. and Martha Unger Hoffman his wife Frances Moon Hoffman and brother Dr. John P. Hoffman.

Bill served in the Counter Intelligence Corps CIC as a Special Agent during World War II in the U.S., North Africa, China, Burma, and India. After the war, he served as CIC Special Agent and Security Specialist in intelligence, counterintelligence in the U.S., Germany, Japan, Okinawa, and Thailand. He retired from the Army in 1964 after 20 years service with the rank of CW3. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal and two Army Commendation Medals, one with one Oak Leaf Cluster. Bills military career is noted in the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC.


Following retirement from the Army, Bill worked as information specialist in the Director of Maintenance Office, Fort Hood, TX. He also worked as Chief, Personnel Security and Security Specialist, G2, III Corps, as well as at Fort Hood in the civil service career intelligence program. He was employed as a Physical Security Inspector, Provost Marshal, HQ III Corps at Fort Hood. He retired from civil service in 1982 and began work as a licensed security consultant.

Bill was a life member of the National Association of
Retired Federal Employees NARFE, the Retired Officers Association TROA, the Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW, The American Society for Industrial Security ASIS, National Counter Intelligence Corps Association NCICA, Counter Intelligence Corps Association of South Texas, Army Counter Intelligence Veterans ACICV, Texas Police Association, and the Central Texas Peace Officers Association. He was Texas State Chairman of the now defunct Organization of Retired Military ORM past Chairman Central Texas Chapter, ASIS Past President Killeen Chapter, NARFE and past State President Texas Federation of Chapters, NARFE.

Survivors include his son, William Edward, Jr., daughter, Elizabeth Jane Atkins, grandchildren Stephanie and Kimberly Atkins, and several great grandchildren, all of Virginia. Also surviving are brother Eugene C. Hoffman and sister, Louise Simpson nephew Gary L. Moon numerous grand, and great grandchildren several great nephews and nieces.

The HarperTalasek Funeral Home, Killeen, will be in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services will be graveside with an Army Chaplain officiating. Burial will be in the Holland, Texas Cemetery Monday at 1pm.

Visitation will be held Sunday June 10, from 35pm at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas
