Services for MAJ. Ret William A. Wood, 96, of Killeen will be noon at HarperTalasek Chapel with a military chaplain officiating. Burial will follow in Killeen Memorial Park.
William died March 30, 2013 at a nursing home in Bedford, TX.
He married the late Jessie Dora Pigg on May 25, 1940 in Fort Worth, Texas,
They enjoyed 56 blissful years together until her passing in November 1996.
He served in the US Army for 28 years before retiring at the rank of Major on November 1, 1960. During his military service he was awarded the Purple Heart and The Bronze Star during World War II in the ChinaIndia Burma Theater.
After retiring he became a businessman in Killeen. He was the owner of Rancier Texaco and Bill Wood Foreign Car service.
In addition to his 28 years of honorable military service, he was active in fishing, hunting, golf and bowling. He also was a member of the Killeen Masonic Lodge, lifetime member of the VFW and a member of Shriners.
He is survived by his son, William A. Wood Jr. and his wife Lugene Wood of Bedford he has two granddaughters Jennifer Diane Wood and Stephanie Irene Wood both of Bedford.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
