Zelma Hunt

Funeral services for Zelma Richardson Hunt, age 96, formerly of Killeen, who passed away on February 6, 2013, in Plano, TX. will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, Feb. 11, at First Baptist Church, Killeen, TX with Dr. Randall Wallace officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 9:45 AM. Interment will be at Killeen Memorial Park.
Zelma was born March 3, 1916 in Stanton, TX, the daughter of a Southern Baptist Preacher, Mack F Richardson and Eva Jobe Richardson. She married Cagle O. Hunt in 1937, who preceded her in death 1997.

She is survived by three children, Holly Hunt, Chicago IL, Preston Hunt and wife Barbara, Carrollton TX, and Madelon Eichhorn and husband Nick, Broomfield CO. Zelma was very proud of her 9 grandchildren, Jessee Hunt, David Hunt, Hunt Tackbary, Jett Tackbary, Trent Tackbary, Marrisa Zufall, Kailen Stover, Meredyth Hunt, and Adam Hunt. Her 11 greatgrandchildren all gave her great joy. Shirley Marshall and Jean Marie DeSalle, dear friends whom Zelma considered her Texas Daughters, also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Alan, her two brothers, Oran and Mark Richardson, and a sister, Wilma Crowell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Zelma graduated at 16 as valedictorian from Eliasville, TX HS. She entered Hardin Simmons University, graduating in 1936 with a double major in Math and English. She was the 1936 winner of the prestigious Olsen Medal, awarded annually to the highestranking graduating senior. While teaching and being a mother to her four children she continued her education, receiving her MA in Education at HSU in 1955. She taught in Texas public schools for 38 years and retired from Killeen ISD in 1976. Zelma loved learning, teaching and helping others. She supported her children in all of their varied endeavors. She taught Sunday school classes at First Baptist Church Killeen well into her 90s. She loved playing Bridge and 42, and sports . . . and winning Later in life she enjoyed creating quilts for her family and friends. Zelma served as Worthy Matron of Eastern Star OES, and two terms as President of the Wednesday Review Club from age 8286. She gave generously to many worthy causes as well as faithfully supporting Baptist Churches.

Zelma was well loved by family and friends. She considered happiness to be a choice and she chose to be happy and always saw the good in everyone and everything.
