Zulma Prado

Zulma M. Prado was born on April 28, 1944 in Rosario, Argentina. She was the firstborn of 6 children to the late Hipólito Prado and Maria T. Ferreyra. In her youth, she studied tailoring, crocheting and knitting and later became a teacher of those crafts. She was married to her first husband in 1963 and later had her first two daughters Claudia and Sandra.

She immigrated with her husband and two daughters to the United States in 1967. She made a life for herself and her family in New York City where she later had two additional children, Jacqueline and Peter. She divorced in 1973 and did her best to support her four children as a seamstress with the skills she learned in her youth in Argentina. She later met her second husband in 1975 and had her only child with him named Osvaldo.

Eventually, after living in New York for 19 years she moved to Killeen, Texas in 1986. Her daughter Claudia was stationed in Fort Hood at the time. In the early 1990’s, she travelled back and forth from Killeen to New York to help her daughter Sandra. She later divorced in 1998 and continued to work as a seamstress her entire life until retirement. Her favorite hobbies were knitting and crocheting. She spent countless hours making crafts for her friends and family. She enjoyed calling her distant friends and family in Canada and Argentina despite having been apart from them for so many years. She loved to travel and had many opportunities to see her friends and family in Nevada, Florida, Canada and Argentina.

In her final years, she lived quietly and content in her Killeen apartment. She loved dogs and had a little Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix named Oso who was her companion for over 17 years. Everyone that she ever met always said how adorable and sweet she was including her doctors and nurses. She made a positive and lasting impression on those around her. After a courageous two year battle with cancer, she passed away at home peacefully on April 10, 2021 surrounded by family. She lived a long, full life and lived it on her own terms.

Zulma was our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sandra and survived by her four remaining children Claudia, Jacqueline, Peter and Osvaldo.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Funeral Services will be on April 21st at Harper-Talasek in Killeen, TX. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m with a short graveside service at the Killeen City Cemetery at 3 p.m.

Zulma M. Prado nació el 28 de abril de 1944 en Rosario, Argentina. Fue la primogénita de 6 hijos de los ya fallecidos Hipólito Prado y Maria T. Ferreyra. En su juventud ella estudió corte y confección y completo sus estudios para ser maestra. Se casó con su primer esposo en 1963 y tuvo sus primeras dos hijas Claudia y Sandra.

Ella, su esposo y dos hijas inmigraron a los Estados Unidos en 1967. Hizo su vida en la ciudad de Nueva York donde después nacieron otros dos hijos Jacqueline y Peter. Se divorcio en 1973 and hizo lo mejor para cuidar y mantener sus cuatro hijos trabajando como costurera con lo que aprendió en su juventud. Unos años después conoció a su segundo esposo en 1975 y tuvo su único hijo con el llamado Osvaldo.

Después de vivir en Nueva York por 19 años decidió empezar una vida nueva en Killeen, Texas en 1986. En esos años su hija Claudia estaba estacionada en la base militar de Fort Hood. Al principio de los 1990s ella viajaba varias veces de Killeen a Nueva York para ayudar a su hija Sandra. Se divorcio on 1998 y continuo trabajando como costurera su vida entra hasta su retiro. Su pasatiempo favorito era hacer obras de crochet y tejido. Pasaba hora tras hora haciendo diferentes diseños para sus amigos y familia. También le encantaba pasar mucho tiempo hablando por teléfono con sus parientes y amigos lejanos en Argentina y Canada a pesar de no poder verlos muy seguidos por la distancia. Le encantaba viajar y tuvo unas oportunidades de ir a Nevada, Florida, Argentina y Canada para visitar a sus amigos y familiares.

En sus últimos años vivió tranquila y contenta en su departamento en Killeen. Ella le encantaba los perros y tenia uno llamado Oso que la acompañó por 17 años. Todas las personas que la conocieron decían que adorable y dulce era incluyendo sus doctores y enfermeras. Dejo una impresión positiva y duradera en todos que la rodeaban. Después de una batalla valiente de dos años contra el cancer, ella falleció en su casa el 10 de abril de 2021 en paz rodeada por su familia. Ella vivió una vida larga y plena a su manera.

Zulma fue nuestra querida madre, abuela, bisabuela, tía y amiga. Ella fue precedida en la muerte por su hija Sandra y sobrevive através de sus cuatro hijos Claudia, Jacqueline, Peter y Osvaldo.

Los servicios fúnebres serán el 21 de abril en Harper-Talasek en Killeen, TX. El velorio será de las 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. y el entierro será a a las 3 p.m. en el Killeen City Cemetary.
