Killeen

Services for Doris Norene Edwards, 97, of Killeen, will be Tuesday January 7, 2020 at 10 am at the Killeen Church of Christ, 400 W. S. Young Dr. Killeen, Texas 76543.

Interment will follow at Killeen City Cemetery.

Doris passed away peacefully at her home on January 2, 2020.

Doris was born in Elijah, Texas on October 26, 1922, to Jeff and Margaret Allman. As a child she grew up in the Clear Creek Community and went on to play ladies fastpitch softball for the Killeen City Merchants. Doris attended Nixon and Clay Business College and Central Texas College.

She worked with Killeen Savings & Loan, advancing her way to the top of the financial institution by becoming their comptroller. She went on to work at Central Texas College in the Business Office where she eventually retired.

On December 24, 1938, Doris married Preston Ordell Edwards Sr. They had two children, Dorothy Ray Edwards and Preston Ordell Edwards Jr. They purchased 10 acres in Killeen, Texas and built their final home in 1979 where they lived out the rest of their lives.

Doris was a devoted member of the Killeen Church of Christ. She was a fond supporter of her kids, and all of her grandchildren; attending sporting events, concerts, birthdays, graduations, and reunions. She had a great sense of humor and was always up for entertaining.

She was the very example of someone that was easily loved and cherished by all the people that she came in contact with throughout the years. She was widely known to everyone as “Granny,” even if she wasn’t a granny to you at all.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, siblings; Henry Allman, Ione Vick, Vera Cook, Dora Cannon, and twin brother Norris Allman, husband Preston Ordell Edwards Sr., daughter-in-law Lea Ann Edwards and grandchild Charles Stiles.

She is survived by her sister, Billie Faye Rucker, daughter Dorothy Ray Lee (Joe Lee & John Hartfield), son Preston Ordell Edwards Jr., grandchildren; Shannon Acker (Bob Macon), Garner Edwards (Kara Edwards), Jacinda Hill ( John Hill), great-grandchildren, Casey Stiles, Chance Stiles (Amber Stiles), Brianna Acker, Hailey Hill, Justin Leasure, Myles Edwards, great-great-grandchild Adeline Stiles and many extended family members.
