Obituary

Mickey Joe French was born in Coffee County, Alabama to Nancy Elizabeth and Virgil French on December 21, 1948. When he was seven his father was killed in an automobile accident.

Eventually, two widowers, Elizabeth and Grover Garrett, each with two children, married and were blessed with another five boys.

In 1966, Mickey joined the U.S. Army and spent two years in Vietnam as a 91 Bravo Medic. He was part of the original and distinguished 57 Dustoff Medevac unit. After Vietnam, he served in Japan. Upon returning stateside he went to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio to further his training as a 91 Charlie. While in San Antonio, he met his wife of 49 years, Martha Obregon. They had two children, Andrew James in 1976, and Silvana Rae in 1978.

After various other assignments, Mickey retired after 20 years of service. He then attended Mary Hardin Baylor and graduated with honors in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

He worked for Child Protective Services for 17 years. He was loved and respected by his CPS family.

He was an avid reader, a fisherman and a grandpa. His greatest joys were his 3 grand-children, Juliette, Naomi and Andrew Mickey.

He is survived by his wife, Marty; his son, Andrew; and daughter, Silvana Boyd (Simon); brothers, Grover Danny (Juliet), Randy (Vana), and David Garrett; 3 grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Elizabeth French Garrett, his step-father, Grover; brothers, Henry Garrett (Billie Jean), William (Bobbie), Tim (Dawn); his sisters, Janice Goodson (Jack), and Linda Walker (Joe).
