Obituary

Richard Lee Miles, age 86, of Killeen, Tx, transitioned to heaven very peacefully on February 3rd, 2023 after a lengthy illness.

Graveside services provided by Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Killeen will be held Saturday, February 11, beginning at noon in Kempner, Tx at the Kempner Cemetery. He will be presented with Full Military Honors.

Richard was born in Washington, Indiana on March 29th, 1936. He was the first son of Frances Richard Miles and Wilma G. Reddick. He joined the US Army in 1953 and retired in 1973 at Fort Hood, Tx. He went on to serve in multiple law enforcement fields, and prior to being fully retired, returned to Civil Service at the Mobile Tank Range in Fort Hood, Tx.

Richard was happiest working and being outdoors. Throughout his life he was very good at hunting, fishing, and camping with friends and family. He had many skillful attributes which included being an expert rifleman, square dancer and innovative woodworker which he built beautiful designed pieces that his family treasure to this day. He enjoyed old time country music and was a talented harmonicaist. Most of all he just loved his family. Being a father, grandfather and Uncle brought him tremendous pride and joy. He loved a great joke and enjoyed laughing and life.

Richard is survived by his loyal and faithful wife, married 33 years, Kimberly Miles; his brother, Ron Miles of Petersburg, IN; sister, Loretta (Sis) Stieneker of Huntingburg, IN; his son, Michael T. Miles (Nancy) of Scottdale, PA; grandchildren, Tara Deihl (Brooks), Seth Blereau, Jennifer Shelton (Burke), Claude "Alex" Blereau (Kari), Logan Miles (Yazmin); daughter, Vicki Jane Mills (Richard) of Temple, TX; grandson, Travis Bell; son, William Jackson (Jack) Miles of Dickinson, Tx; grandchildren, Amanda McGovern, Jenny Lancaster, Marshall Miles (Tiffany), Vera Miles; daughter, Gera LaNore (Steve) of Pottsboro, TX; grandson, Geraed Maine; daughter, Sue McCormick of Killeen; granddaughters, Alexandria Beck and Ashley Beck; and daughter, Suyeon Nam of Austin. Richard has 14 great-grandchildren, Miles Blanton, Matthew Blanton, Brayden Miles Streight, Marshalee White, Madison Shelton, Asher Blereau, Kase Miles, Waylon White, Corbin Blereau, Grayson Shelton, Hank White, Keziah Blereau, Matilda (Tilley) Miles, Kaynah Blereau, Dylan McGovern and Daisy McGovern.

Near and dear to his heart are Uncle Dick’s many beloved cousins and nieces and nephews in Indiana. His pride was Becky Hopf, Misty Ubelhor, Mark Stieneker, Michael Todd Miles, Joe Miles, Ray Miles, Steve Miles, Christy Boles, Sarah Miles, and great nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Barbara Jane Miles of Kempner, brother Bill Miles of Peterburg, IN, Jack Miles of Bloomington, IN, Scotty Miles.
